Introduction

We are at the beginning of a new era as we adapt to an Artificially Intelligent (AI) ecosystem rapidly driving a colossal transformation in the ever-evolving digital age, broadening our future trajectory and how we experience this world. It is easy to forget how small we are in the universe when so much remains to be discovered.

Humankind must conform to this revolution as it shapes our future with a leap in user interface and technology. AI is demonized in the same breath that it is idolized as depicted in fictional sci-fi movies due to its capacity to be dynamite amid philosophies and questionable ethics behind the creation of machines emulating human intelligence without emotionality. Our capabilities to engage with and use AI in unpredicted ways intensifies in unison to its increasing abilities.

Despite AI being in existence for decades, this algorithm-based engineering of knowledge is on the bleeding edge of innovation, developing perception and machine learning reasoning. This sets it apart from other prime technologies, bound to keep it in the limelight for years to come. It is an essential part of the industry, aiding to solve numerous challenges in research, software engineering, and computer science.

AI is changing the future & is here to co-exist

One of the most talked-about companies ceding the public attention is OpenAI, founded by tech moguls Elon Musk and Sam Altman, providing vast injections of investments, resources, and knowledge. Which began as a simplified idea with the motivational desire to build AGI (artificial general intelligence) after growing existential concerns of a potential large-scale disaster derived from careless misuse as the digital intelligence field advances. Unlike the slew of major tech companies, OpenAI’s approach is driven matchlessly, utilizing a business model unimpeded by a mandate to generate financial profits (capped).

Ilya Sutskever is making major contributions as chief scientist, shifting the trajectory of how we deploy and integrate AI as a transformative tool, casting together an incredibly adept team of world-class scientists, researchers, engineers who are working tirelessly to enhance the human experience. Providing the foundation for hyperinnovation, of advanced, and powerful tools delivering unparalleled efficiency in cost and results. Their projects remind us how we can positively integrate AI to function as an extension to society.

In July 2019, OpenAI accepted a one billion US dollar investment from Microsoft to adequately broaden the horizons of AGI. This financial artillery brought them to the forefront of competition with Chinese tech giants, attracting commissions from an impressive investor list such as Reid Hoffman – LinkedIn co-founder, Peter Thiel – PayPal co-founder, and other tech giants like Amazon, Google, and Facebook.

GPT 3

OpenAI has significant goals, engineering impressive systems with the capacity to surpass human capabilities on a larger, more intimidating scale. Although the OpenAI Gym was initially available as a beta version, the fully functional and modified open-source library came later. This was the corporations’ premier tool for comparison and developing machine learning algorithms.

The most spectacular achievement, propelling a significant shift in modern times anthropomorphizing a powerful predictor, named GPT- (n), also known as Generative Pre-trained Transformer, an autoregressive language model contributing further breakthroughs in natural language processing (NLP).

The current version GPT-3 is two orders of magnitude better than previous, capturing, and enticing the imagination of the technology community due to its flexibility with sheer dimension and size. Leveraging minimal fine-tuning on a minor corpus to advance performance on specific tasks, datasets of text from Common Crawl, tokens from Wikipedia, GitHub, and books.

GPT-3 was introduced in May 2020, becoming the largest language model beating Microsoft’s Turing NLG. It has a capacity of 175 billion machine learning parameters and therefore, little training data is necessitated as it can generate superior high-quality text hard to be distinguished from that of a human, summarizing paragraphs, design web pages, prediction of sentences following a given input, and even perform some forms of common-sense reasoning and arithmetic which is equally risky and beneficial. To mitigate the risk of potential danger, they released only the API (application programming interface) to the public (a few selected researchers, tech world public figures, and a blend of entrepreneurs), opening the door of possibilities.

This has laid the foundation for ground-breaking advances based on artificial neural network architecture, possessing the human-like capacity to reason and apply skills to unfamiliar situations. Interaction with GPT-3 offers a surreal experience, often creating the illusion of interacting with a human with desires and principles. While it is not yet as intelligent as the virtual assistant depicted in the 2013 movie Her, there are start-ups like Replika making progress.

Impacting modern industries.

Enterprises are encouraged to embrace the relative effortlessness to construct enormously articulated and fascinating proofs-of-concepts with GPT-3’s API. If modern industries discover the use-cases and enhance processes, they will be able to construct value-added for their clients whilst enhancing monetization. The impact will be enormous.

Those with a wider collection of datasets will be more capable than their opponents to extract value. Areas such as customer service, healthcare, manufacturing, education, transportation are already seeing huge shifts.

As an example, introducing AI in the education industry will enhance and enrich IT system efficacy in the adoption of personalized learning abilities, eradication of boundaries in global learning, and administrative task simplification.

GPT-3’s capabilities of recreating conversations then embodying them through a human digital platform to recreate the characteristics and visual appearance of the historical person can take learning to new levels. Students could absorb more about Physics by having flowing conversations with Albert Einstein or Philosophy with Immanuel Kant, Karl Marx, and Lao-Tzu.

Educate, Support, and Invest.

Modern Artificial Intelligence is here to build us and not destroy us; we need to change our perspective and mode of thinking. AI creates numerous opportunities for start-ups to emerge from garages, minimizing running costs. With breakthroughs in transformational learning, intensive prior knowledge of high-level programming languages is unnecessary. This technology now exists at a manageable point, reducing sweat equity, habitually knocking our heads against the wall to evolve, increasing overall usability to the masses.

Domain knowledge, how intrinsic processes run and perform within a company, is a requirement for a better chance of success in creating successful AI products, information that most engineers are not privy to, as they can map and re-create simulations correlating reality.

We are now seeing significant progress as new inventions appear each week, the use cases are huge where they can be applied and scaled: smarter factories, financial sector, the weather, building smarter transportation, deep learning to assess mortgage risk.

AI Bettering our Quality of Life.

Mentioning how AI is revolutionizing the world, how can we forget that it makes the world more accessible. AI goes a long way in assisting those living with disabilities, enabling them to work equally as their other counterparts within the same environment.

For instance, speech-to-text recognition or AI’s capacity to complete an email that has been started makes life less strenuous. The application of AI has huge benefits in the medical field, as we see with wetware, which brings together sophisticated hardware, software, creativity, and our brain cells (which we know so little about).

Samanyou Garg, leveraged GPT 3 to create ‘Magic Email’, an empowered email assistant that helps you get through emails five times faster, this tool can summarize and generate emails with a single click, really supporting those with ADHA and Dyslexia with a single tap.

And Sharif Shameem invented ‘debuild.co’, which can build a program that allows users to build a website just by describing how it should look like, and function.

Last but not the least, with AI technology changing the landscape of the medical field and companies incorporating it into their practices, they are now more open towards hiring people from various physical and mental backgrounds, reducing discrimination. Open AI has developed other dual neural networks that associate text and images such as with CLIP and DALL-E, and Microsoft and Alphabet are heavily invested in developing more technologies that will fundamentally influence the quality of life, ultimately improving equality.

Making our Place

With the increase in computational power, AI is finding more ways to achieve new feats more efficiently, continuously breaking records, and is responsible for inspiring humans to find new strategies to optimise performance. Humans only use an exceedingly small percentage of their cognitive capacity, and these feats reiterate our limitations.

Ke Jie, the number one worldwide GO player, was the first example after being beaten to the game by Google’s AlphaGO in 2017 which used reinforcement learning to achieve.

The most advanced competitive game globally, Dota 2 has prize money of USD 34 million at the world championships. In 2019, OpenAI 5 won the best team worldwide. This is a significant steppingstone for OpenAI’s creation of systems to accomplish clearly defined roles in complex situations.

Security & Precaution

AI is dynamite for innovation taking the tech world by storm but is also demonized with concerns relating to philosophical, spiritual, and epistemological. With capabilities rapidly becoming superior to human intelligence, these advancements could influence privacy invasion, copyright, social manipulation & misinformation as well as autonomous weapons. It is extremely important to demystify concerns as AI grows multiple times faster than Moore’s law.

OpenAI commits to long-term safety, their representatives argued in 2016, at the U.S Congress that AGI will prove to be an asset to the nation’s economic development, as this is the beginning of a new app ecosystem, launching a charter to project the timeline. However, the greatest concern for analysts, Bill Gates included is the numerous jobs set to be taken over by AI. A study titled “The future of employment” by Carl Benedikt together with Oxford professor Michael Osborne, outlined the risks and current growth of the AI market being extremely underestimated in all forecasts. It will replace much of the R&D teams, and up to 47% of jobs. The most secure occupations emerging will require a strong foundation in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and a close human-computer collaboration.

Since the Industrial Revolution, many still have an uneasy feeling that we are not prepared for the major upheavals that intelligent technological advances bring, such as recorded in 1811 when ‘The Luddites’ began to destroy textile machinery in the belief it would diminish employment. Stephen Hawking, Max Tegmark, Andrew Ng have mixed predictions, as an extraneous long-term risk and disruptive force, advising to reason with the faculty of wisdom and move cautiously with great sensitivity in the digital era, echoing the warnings of George Orwell.

John Von Neumann warned of ‘The Singularity’, where there is potential for unforeseeable, irreversible, and uncontrollable change if a machine can imitate intelligent behaviour indistinguishable from a human, transcending the Turing test. The development of these breakthroughs can lead to a catalytic enabler for boundless consequential inventions and innovations such as what happened with electricity.

The Future of GPT 3

We must be responsible with inordinate care as we advance digital technologies. Although most researchers are confident that a superiorly intelligent AI will not likely express human emotion or be intentionally evil or good, they are convinced that significant risks are parallel to the territory.

Analysing the business arena, and the use cases of GPT 3, it became clear that businesses are making use of it in 3 dimensions, coding, writing and specific reasoning. Therefore, the future of natural language processing would also align itself in proportion.  However, it is necessary to recognize the efforts of the research community which led to such inventions, contributing towards making the systems smarter and our work easier.

Thus, AI is revolutionizing the world, the economy, the ecosystem, and we should not fear it but instead collectively adapt to the changes that it brings, and incorporate it into user-friendly systems that benefit all of humanity. It is time to invest fearlessly in this revolution, putting our minds together to make better changes through positive sentiments. Indeed, AI has the potential to save the world

You are probably wondering if this was written by a human?
